Provides a variety of benchmark based activities (HSA related) tied directly to the reading of short selections from Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul. These mini lessons work great with reluctant readers, because are still responsible for learning HSA skills, but are intrigues by the short story and/or poem, and are not overwhelmed by the required reading. This is the preliminary themes and concepts PP for the book.
I bought this guide for over $20. I found it very interesting, because it basically teaches students how to beat the test. I taught my SAT students what I thought they needed to know. They were self motivated to learn how to "cheat" on their own. I do not think that any student should just be taught how to beat the test. If you would like a more authorized version of SAT materials, see my SAT PowerPoints. The approcah in this guide is different, but it makes a lot of sense. These are not orig
These two PowerPoint presentations force students to address real issues they will read about in the novel, Breathing Underwater. One is tailored for boys, the other for girls. I zipped both of them so you should no longer have any trouble accessing them. My co-teacher and I split our classes into boys and girls. I taught the boys Breathing Underwater, while she taught the girls Speak, and then we switched. This worked great!
Teaches students the basic background about satire. Examples are broken down, so that students can recognize the literary elements that make satires, before trying to write their own.
The preview file does not do this folder justice. This is a lot of comprehensive resources that link the research process to The Catcher in the Rye. There are 18 different PowerPoints included, as well as assignment sheets, rubrics, and other activities. I taught this unit in two months. If I uploaded all of this separately and charged only ten dollars per each research topic folder (each one has quite a bit in it)it would cost $100. The folders are criteria, documenting sources, drafting, edit
Parallelism is one of those little grammar things (yes, I said things) that is so easy, but before doing this PowerPoint my students had no clue, regardless of how many times I explained it to them. In this PowerPoint,we play some pattern games. It makes the tough, stupid grammar thing (sorry for the kid language) logical, even for students.
Two very valuable resource guides including tests, study guides, vocabulary, and other activities. Worth much much more than the asking price. These are not original, but resources that really helped me teach the novel.
Offers thinking questions on how all author's create their writing style, as well as questions for analysis. Originally created for use with Breathing Underwater, but it would only take a few easy changes to make it suitable for anything else you are teaching. There is a step by step writing template included (as a graphic organizer/outline) that will guide students through writing an entire style paper. I used this paper with struggling writers, and although the topic was a bit overwhelming at

This Powerpoint includes a guided example, so that students can learn the basics for writing an effective SAT essay. It also includes a kid friendly breakdown of the actual SAT rubric.

I found it very difficult to find meaningful resources for Black Like Me. Here are just a few things I have including tests, writing prompts, and an anticipation guide.Anything you have would be helpful. This one is very cheap in the spirit of share and share alike. Enjoy!
