This check in/out system is best for 3rd-5th grade students. It helps build positive relationships with students who need more emotional support and helps teacher become more in-tune and aware of student's emotions and feelings. Knowing the signs of student's emotional outbursts can help prevent bigger issues and can help the student to become more in control of their feelings.

This is Week 2 of my Math Morning Work!
Every week I make math morning work for my 3rd grade students. I think it could definitely still work for 2nd-4th grades. I include 2 higher order thinking questions covering the topics we are currently learning in class and topics we have previously covered that my kids need extra practice in.

Depending on which game play mat you use, they each get 2-3 turns. When they choose a card, they place it on the game play mat. This a graphic organizer I use with my kids when we are problem solving for math. We pretend we are doctors and they have to perform surgery on their math word problem. The graphic organizer breaks it down into steps as to how to begin working on the problem to decide what operation they need to do and if it is a multi-step problem. They then go on to solve the problem and then check to see if it makes sense!
