I am having difficulty changing the margins on the page in order to have the problems print correctly on a page of labels. Do you have any tips as to how I can correct the layout of the page (top margin is too large)?
Thank you

There are instructions in the eBook as to how to set your printer so that the labels align correctly. Try the following:
1. When in the Preview Labels screen click the Print icon. Under Page Handling make sure Page Scaling is set to None and Auto-Rotate and Center is not selected. Click OK.
N.B Some users have reported that setting Page Scaling to None and selecting Auto-Rotate and Center worked best for their printer so you may need to try both and see which works best for your printer.
2. If the above does not help verify that you have a current version of Adobe Acrobat Reader. To determine the version of Adobe Acrobat, open Adobe from your desktop or start menu, click on help, and then About Acrobat Reader. If you have a version of Adobe Reader less than 10.0, download an update to your reader from the Adobe Reader download page on Adobe's website.
3. Make sure that you are inserting the labels the right way. Rotating them 180 degrees will cause misalignment.

What do you suggest as the best time in the year to start this for first grade?
October 10, 2013 Report inappropriate comment
K-5 Math Teaching Resources
Many of the first grade classrooms we work in begin use of the Math Journals in week one. If students have never done math journals before you will need to make time to introduce the rubric and model what a good math journal response looks like the first few times. Selecting a few students to share their responses at the conclusion of each session and making students aware that there are many different ways to solve a problem is also important.

This is great and I am enjoying it. But I cannot see a key to the questions on the stickers. Do you have one? Having paid for the packet, it would be really great to have the answers as well.

Thanks!

Some of our journal tasks are open ended and have multiple solutions. Others have only one solution but can be solved using multiple strategies. We encourage you to take a step back and allow students to take ownership of math journal sessions by sharing their solutions and various strategies at the conclusion of each math journal session. As a class the students should decide on the correct answer/s after everyone has had the opportunity to share their conjectures. This looks very different from a more traditional classroom in which the teacher (as the holder of all answers) shows and tells students the solution to a problem using his/her preferred strategy. You will be pleasantly surprised at how much your students can teach each other (and you may even learn some new strategies yourself!). Although no answer keys are provided, student work samples showing solutions to some tasks can be seen in the Math Journal Gallery on our website. See:

Your math journals are exactly what I've been looking for to incorporate into our curriculum. I'd like to place an order for your K, 1, and 2 math journals. I'm presenting at a teacher workshop and would love to purchase multiple licenses for each of the aforementioned grades. Do you accept POs from school districts? We are looking at approximately 20-40 teachers, varied number at each grade level.

Thanks for your help.

I bought the K-2 Addition and Subtraction strategies and 2nd grade Math Journals from the Original Sight K-5 mathteaching. I was wondering if you have anwer keys anywhere that show how some of the strategies are written down. For some of us older teachers, we were never taught a lot of these and it is sometimes hard to figure out exactly what you are looking for in an answer. I loved using your worksheets and my students' scores shot up!

There is no answer key. We have a few worksamples available in the Math Journal gallery on our website and will be developing this more this school year. We encourage teachers to contact us via our website if there are tasks that they are unsure of but most of them are fairly straightforward. If you read the page on our website about implementing Math Journals you will see that a big part of Math Journal sessions is the Share at the end of the lesson. This is where students share their work and debate answers rather than the teacher being the one to give out the answers. Hope this helps!

You didn't say which file you purchased but just save it to your computer. Once you have it saved you can attach it to an email and email it to yourself to open and save at school. That way you can just print out the pages you need when you need them rather than printing out the whole file at once.

I saw your posting on the home page of Teachers Pay Teachers; so, I thought I would look at your freebie. Well done!

I have a few suggestions that might help you to better market your products. First, create a cover page for each of your products which can then be used as an attractive thumbnail to entice buyers. (Some of your products do have this.) Add a second page which is a directions or suggestions page for the teacher. List several ways you use this product in your classroom. Never assume that a buyer knows how, why, or when to use your product. I do like your mini lesson plan for the week and know teachers will appreciate that.

Use the footer to put the copyright symbol, your name and date of creation on EVERY page. Items, especially free ones, have been "stolen" from TPT and posted on other sites to be sold. You have to protect all of your creations. Also, number your pages.

Since you teach the primary grades, I’d appreciate your input on my freebie listed below.

Courtney B. re: 4th Grade Math Journals
I am interested in buying these immediately. Are the 4th and 5th grade versions different, similar, or the same?

K-5 Math Teaching Resources
Hi, The tasks are based on the Common Core Standards for each grade level so 4th and 5th grade differ in content. If you'd like some more information about the philosophy behind the math journals see the Math Journals page on our website: k-5mathteachingresources.com

Terri's Teaching Treasures
Hi, I purchased the grade 4 and grade 5 math journal questions. My class loves them. I am having a problem though in printing them properly on the labels. I bought the Avery ones you suggested but the do not fit and the questions go onto the next stciker. Can you help me please? Thanks

Hi, Sorry to hear you are having problems with the labels. I'm not really sure why this is happening as I have printed them many times on different printers without any problems. If you email me via the contact page on my website (k-5mathteachingresources.com) I can send you the word version of the document so that you can experiment with changing the size of the font to see if this makes a difference to your printer.
