The Mitten-Language Arts and Art Lesson
This language arts and art lesson is based on the story, "The Mitten" retold and adapted by Jan Brett. The children identify the animal characters in the story by drawing them on a mitten cut out.
This packet includes:
1.Cover letter.
2.Lesson with directions and materials needed.

Common Core Place Value Math Unit
This is a 110 page unit that includes:
-a color cover
-standards and 3 rubrics
-an idea and directions page
-16 pages of centers (2 sets of picture cards, number cards for 11-19, and place value representation cards for 11-19).
-50 pages of "teen numbers" sheets (3 skills are: 1.count objects, write numeral, and show place value representation. 2.identify numeral and show place value representation. 3.count place value representation and write the numeral.)

Chinese New Year-Zodiac Animal Activities and Worksheets
This 58 page packet has zodiac animal activities and worksheets created using my own hand drawn clip art. I made sheets for all 12 zodiac animals so you can use this packet from year after year. You can make Chinese New Year relevant to the students by having them learn about their birth year zodiac animal. You will find individual sheets in this packet that will do this and students can create a headband with their specific zodiac animal.

In this packet, you will find the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac and the Zodiac calendar. There are 39 black and white jpeg and png files, and colored png files. These files can be used for commercial use when creating a product.

You will find clip art of dragons, a Chinese boy and girl, noodles, fans,firecrackers, etc. There are black and white jpeg and png files which are great for making reproducibles. Plus brightly colored png files for creating posters, etc. There are a total of 49 clip art files. You may use the clip art for commercial use to create a product.

Chinese New Year Counting Book
This packet contains 33 pages. There are three versions of the counting book: tracing the number name, writing the number name independently, and writing the numeral. This book counts from 1 to 10. You can put the pages in order or scramble them. Students count the pictures and then write the number name/numeral, or traces the number name, or traces the numeral.
This book utilizes the following Kindergarten Common Core Standards:

My students love making this hat headband. They enjoy wearing a hat that looks like Johnny Appleseed's hat. It intrigues them that he wore a pot upside down on his head. Enjoy making these hats with your students!

In this packet you will find:

Students will count the bears and write the number name then subtract one bear until there are no more bears left. There is a matching equation that needs to be solved on every other page. Students can also color and draw the background.

Experience
My name is Megan Mckee and I have been teaching for 11 years. Boy, does time fly! I have been blessed to spend 9 of those years teaching Kindergarten. I have learned a lot and am excited to share my ideas and creations with you.
Teaching style
I love hands-on activities but Kindergarteners also need a balance with whole group instruction and independent practice. I also believe in differentiation. It's a lot of hard work but worth it in the end. I see big gains when I balance all these elements.
Awards & shining teacher moments
Over the years I have received various honors and awards but the best ones are the appreciative letters from parents and drawings/notes from the children.
My own education history
I earned a Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education at Brigham Young University-Hawaii Campus with a minor in Art.
Additional biographical information
I have had the opportunity to lead Kindergarten as grade level chair at different times over the years. Currently I am grade level chair of 12 with my co-chair Heather. It is definitely a learning experience that comes with many responsibilities. I am so lucky to work with these amazing ladies.
Our principal believes in empowering the teachers. Creating our own units and curriculum based on the Hawaii state standards and benchmarks gives us a feeling of ownership. As a grade level, we have created our own interdisciplinary units, language arts and math curriculum over the years.
I first started creating my own worksheets and assessments because there were no teacher created books out there just for Kindergarten.(I'm sure there are a lot of you out there who understand what I am talking about) Everything was K-2 or 1-2, which I would have to tweak for my Kindergarteners. This is when I decided to make my own. It was easier and I could create the sheet specific to my student's skills and needs. I have been doing this for the last 9 years and don't plan on stopping anytime soon. It is because of these experiences, I have become a "master" at creating worksheets and assessments.
This past summer, Hawaii has embraced the Common Core Standards. Our grade level jumped in with both feet and worked throughout the summer to start the process of tweaking our units and curriculum. The first half of the school year I have been very busy creating worksheets and projects to address these new standards for language arts and math. It has been a huge learning experience for me. I can't wait to share some of the things I have made!
