Collect A Number {Place Value with Expanded Notation}
This math activity that covers place value and expanded notation. This can be played independently or in small groups.
This item comes with 3 different recording sheet (one that is up to tens, another up to hundreds, and the third up to thousands). All 3 recording sheets use the same spinner. The spinner involves more than a paper clip and the pencil the student is currently using (no special brads or brass fasteners!)

This space-themed 120-chart comes in both color and black and white. Also included are blank 120-charts. I usuall copy them front to back and place inside of a clear sheet protector to be used with dry erase markers.
Practice moving on the 120 chart with plus 10, minus 10, plus 1, minus 1 120-chart windows. (color on colored paper, laminate, cut out the center and along the dotted lines)

This game include 36 2-digit place value cards (with expanded notation, ten and ones, and base ten blocks) and spinner board. In this 2 - 4 player game, students determine the 2-digit number illustrated by the place value shown on the card. After each student says their answer, a player spins the spinner. If the spinner lands on "high" the student with the number keeps all of the cards. If the spinner lands on "low" the student with the lowest number keeps the cards.

Place Value Blast Off! - Expanded Notation, Comparing Numbers, and Number Line
This is an all-around math activity that covers place value, expanded notation, comparing numbers, and placing numbers on a semi-open number line. This can be played independently or in small groups.

Race to 100 - Place Value Game
Students take turns collecting base ten blocks in order to be the firsr to collect 100. Students learn the basics of place value by turning ten ones into a stick of ten, and when ten sticks of ten is reached, trading them for a one hundred.
The game board is specifically designed to work with standard base ten blocks. Simply copy onto cardstock, laminate and cut in half for two gameboards.

Place Value Scoot - Differentiated
Each student gets a recording sheet. Distribute the task cards throughout the room. Students determine the amount on each card and record the answer on their recording sheet. This place value scoot comes with two difficulty levels: easy and medium/hard.
*To make it even more challenging, I usually ask my students to write the expanded notation of each amount (ex. 300 + 50 +7)

Use any restaurant menu to round to the nearest dollar.

Practice number recognition for numbers 10 - 20 by reading different sets of random numbers. Some ideas include reading these numbers to a partner, use a timer to see how long it takes to read the numbers, or place on the door for students to use as a "ticket out/in the door."
