I am in my 16th year of teaching high school. Over the years, I've taught almost every class that could be offered in a Business/CTE department. Now I also teach senior level Personal Finance, which is considered to be a math credit.
If you've been talking about paychecks in your class, this worksheet is a good practice. It includes 5 sample paystubs. Students will need to calculate gross income, Social Security, Medicare, total deductions and Net Pay.
This activity incorporates an online credit card and applied math skills. Kids will use math to determine that making the minimum payments on credit cards is a bad idea. The students will also use writing skills to articulate how to appropriately use credit cards.
This project is used at the end of the Home Ownership unit in a Personal Finance class. It could be used in either a math course or business course. My students have found it beneficial to look at mathmatical information in a practical way.
In this activity students will first create a budget for a young adult. If students do not have background with creating a simple budget I recommend doing that step as a whole class activity. Students will then choose one of three cars for “Jenna” and calculate her costs of financing. Loan calculations are completed using an online loan calculator. Students will have to draw conclusions based on the calculations they find.
This is a great year end project to complete with students. Students will create a scale floor plan and 3D scale model of a home. My students spent just over a week with this project. Most work was done in class. (I recommend you buy a glue gun for them to use). Students can use anything for the 3D scale model portion.
This unit contains 23 days of material to teach students how to get a job. These materials are tested and have been used with 1,000s of students. The assignments are broken down in chunks in such a way that even a Freshman can create a top quality resume.

High School students struggle with resume writing. This unit given them ideas on how to organize a simplified resume. All resumes look a little different; contents of this unit are intended for beginners. Students will practice with several resumes of other people before you let them construct their own. I have had lots of luck with these lessons. I have most used with Freshmen, but all high school levels are appropriate.
Students today have no idea on how their online behavior can impact their future lives. They are also not taught how to use the internet and other media appropriately. This is an introductory lesson that can be used in any Technology or Business class. Product file includes the PowerPoint and an additional file that is the note shell and worksheet.
This method is what I use to give positive reinforcement in my classroom. It is also how I control the requests to use the restroom. Students can earn money and spend money in the classroom. I use this technique with 9th and 10th grade students, and yes, they love it. I would imagine it would work fantastic with younger students also.
I include my use of this as part of my syllabus.
