Run-on sentences has to be one of the biggest obstacles for second grade friends on their path to great writing. This is a really fun and creative idea that help students visualize the differences between the different areas we live in. This is a great resource to use while teaching your kids to write a Procedural/"How-To" piece. If you like to open your lessons with your objective/learning target then these posters are a cute way to present them to the class. I made this log in order to document specific behaviors. I made copies and carried it on a clipboard to help all staff involved jot down quick notes. This was very handy when it was time to present information on specific behaviors (what were the behaviors, frequency, etc.).

This is a simple form that you can fill out either before or during the conference. You can highlight student's strengths, areas of growth, and concerns. Also, there is a section for comments and/or questions. You can give this filled out form to the parent so that they know in what areas they can help their child.

So, I scoured the web looking for a 'long vowels' activity that contains one syllable words and is appropriate for second grade. That didn't go well :/. So I decided to make my own. This is an interesting activity in that it helps your kids learn that there are exceptions to the rule of "drop the y and add ies". This is an engaging activity your students will enjoy. I just added a sentence and drawing activity to this file :). ENJOY!

This activity allows your kids to create their very own story problems. They also show how to solve the problem and the answer on the back (in answer sheet). The story problems can be collected and made into a class book. Students will be able to read each other's story problems and try and solve them. They can check their work afterwards by looking at the answer sheet on the back.

This is a simple book report form your students can use as a reading response or to show comprehension of the text. They also have the opportunity to rate the book and tell why they do/do not recommend this book to a friend.

I've had book bin labels in the past that have been so specific that I didnt have/find any books to put into them. This year, I am going to go a simpler route. I made fiction, non-fiction, hard cover, and featured books labels to place on my bins. Maybe they'll be useful to you too :) Enjoy! I made these to help keep the teacher's desk in my classroom neat and organized. You can print these on card stock, laminate, and cut them out. I paper clip these to any area or document that needs it but you can use these however you'd like. These are perfect for teachers that job share and need to keep things neat, organized, and clearly labeled for each other to find.

Students draw 4 one-digt cards and create two-two digit numbers. They then create a subtraction equation and solve it. There's room for 4 equations. This is a great morning warm up or a fun activity for students to review their subtraction skills. Directions are also on the sheet :).
