Glyphs are a great activity for young children for a number of reasons. Their primary purpose is to demonstrate a variety of data in a novel and interesting way. Young students can use glyphs to express facts and opinions. They then can observe the glyphs of their peers to collect and measure data on their class. This is a sight word activity that I use during center time in the month of March. You can use it in many different ways. Included in this activity are 100 colorful leprechaun cards with sight words appropriate for Kindergarten and first grade, as well as three blank cards for you to add your own words. Three different worksheets are also included so you can choose the one that works best for your students.

This is a simple activity that Kindergarten and First grade students enjoy during center time. Twelve colorful word cards containing winter words and pictures are hidden around the classroom or home. Students or the teacher can chose from one of three different leveled worksheets to use as children "hunt" around the room for the words on the word cards. This game is designed to be played in a small group of students with an adult. Students are each given a sleigh, then take turns drawing playing cards from the designated deck. If students are able to correctly read the card, they get to hitch that reindeer to their sleigh. Cards read incorrectly are placed back in the deck. This is a hands on center activity where students act as penguins and �fish� out colorful CVC word cards disguised as fish. Included are 28 colorful fish word cards including words from the �an, -at, -op, -it, and �ad word families. Also included is a worksheet for students to sort and track the words they have found.
