Teaching with Class

Students read and rewrite the simple sentences to make them correct. Need to teach counting words and spaces? Need to teach that sentences begin with uppercase letters and end with punctuation? Just need to practice handwriting? YOU NEED THIS! My students think that sentence editing time is the BEST TIME OF THE DAY! (Yes, even better than art and PE) Can be used in higher grades as a beginning of the year review, or for low-level students.

Youngsters are fascinated about sharks and other sea animals. When studying the ocean, I have this on the Promethean Board with the lights off when my students enter the classroom. They are instantly interested! We discuss different types of sharks, camouflage, sharks getting caught in nets, prey, etc. After 'shark talk' we talk about other sea creatures with slides of squid, sea turtles, and others. This power point presentation introduces the problem of litter to K-3 students in a slightly mysterious and then exciting way. I have used it for years, and it always sparks a lot of creative discussion and writing. Teachers can read it word for word or add their own input. The setting is in East Tennessee, but feel free to edit it to make it your own.

Took these pics on a recent trip to the Sequoyah Birthplace Museum in Vonore, Tennessee. Over 60 pics (2-3 are blurry, but still usable) that could be used as are or in your own presentations. Also includes pics of the previous Tanasi area, which is now covered by Fort Loudon Lake. Topics could include Cherokee Indians, Sequoyah and his alphabet, Nancy Ward, Clans, Trail of Tears, etc.

A 'rhyming how to' for students learning to write numbers 1-10. Perfect for Early Childhood programs and Kindergarten classrooms. Parents will LOVE this tool which makes helping their child much easier. I use it every year!

A simple counting power point that is animated. My students use white boards to write down the number of items that they count, enabling me to see who can count and write their numbers correctly. Later in the year, they write the number word that goes along with their answer. It can be a challenge, because the pictures move. Feel free to edit it and make it your own!

I use this power point in my Kindergarten classroom several times a week to practice sight words, enabling my students to know these 56 words by mid October! Punch these cards with a hole punch, when you catch a student 'doing the right thing'. Focus on the good within your classroom, rather than the naughty and you may sway some students away from the dark side! After a set number of punches (up to you), students earn a reward that you see fit. I have included these in regular black and white print as well. :)

I made this for my two nieces to try to teach them that girls have been victims of silly advertisements for years. They couldn't believe the ads. It could be used in a high school classroom for discussion on anything from propaganda to feminism.

A hook or mini-lesson for probability to get your students thinking! Contains basic vocabulary and real-life probability examples that students can relate to. You will need to construct your own teacher talk with some slides, to fit your grade level.
