Lovin' First Grade Life

My kiddos need extra support in learning to build sentences. This activity walks them through the structure of creating a sentence. Each part of the sentence is designated by a different color. Students pick a word/phrase from each color and put them in order to build a sentence. This activity can be done as a whole class or put in a center.

This is a game I made for intervention with my struggling readers. In this game students draw cards and read the sentence on the card. There are four different sets of cards. Set 1 focuses on short vowel words. Set 2 focuses on long vowel words. Set 3 focuses on digraphs, combinations and suffixes. Set 4 focuses on compound words, contractions and final stable syllables. I made this game for my first graders but it could be used with reading kindergarteners or struggling second graders.

I couldn't find a guided reading sheet that fit my needs so I created one. It has a place for the book title and level as well as the focus of the lesson. I also have a box for word work/vocaculary, pre-reading, during reading, and post reading. the other box is for a student running record. I take a running record with one student at the start of each group. This box is where I keep track and can make small notes to guide my next lesson.
