Description

With Christmas coming, we designed this Math activity using the lyrics to the well known festive song - The 12 Days of Christmas. We have used the list of gifts to base this activity around.

Included in the product:

  • List of gifts given
  • Easy level of 15 questions and answer key
  • Complex level of 15 further questions and answer key
  • Math table to use to support completion of the more complex questions

There are two levels of questions available within this product.

The first level takes the list of gifts on face value, each day provides "my True Love" with the gift on that day. The second level becomes more complex as it takes the gifts from each day and repeats them, therefore, by the end of the 12 days, there are 12 Partridges in a Pear Tree, 22 Turtle Doves, 30 French Hens and so on. Therefore, the questions become challenging managing the information. In the preview, you will notice that a table has been provided to support students in collecting the 364 separate gifts given!

The questions include simple questions (How many birds are given? How many mammals are there? How many legs are there altogether?) but also go beyond the obvious and include research and application, for example:

  • Draw the 5 Gold rings in the form of the World Olympic Games symbol. How many intersections can you find in the symbol?
  • If each bird requires 50g of bird seed each day, how many grams of seed would be needed by the end of the song?
  • If the geese laid one egg each day from delivery to the end of the song, how many eggs would have been laid?

Answer keys for both levels are provided. The preview demonstrates how the product appears to both teachers and students.

We hope that this provides a meaningful activity for problem solving during the festive period. Our children loved this activity last year, and enjoyed being stretched when they reached Level 2!
