"Some of these word problems can be very tricky for my students. We uses these as a daily word problem or warm up to start a short discussion and get our math brains started. Students are easily engaged and often learn a lot just by talking through it with a friend."

"After spending 8+ years teaching middle school English and history, I found myself teaching 6th grade and all subjects. It was midyear and I had no time to learn the curriculum and I have found myself winging it. This resource was very helpful and my students didn't complain!"

Description

In this pack you will have access to OVER 150 real life open ended problems. Plus a free problem solving mat that includes reflection.

LESS THAN 5c a PROBLEM!!!

No preparation required. Real life problems means students are engaged as it tunes into their interests! Multiple solutions and multiple problem solving strategies can be used. These have been tried and tested in my class, ranging from year 1 to year 5.

Covering number, patterns and algebra, money, place value, measurement and some chance and data.

The great thing about these problems is that they have low entry and high ceiling entry points to suit all abilities and needs within your class. I've used these with levels/grades 1-5. You can also change these problems to be more suited to your students current interests/sports etc.

Use in conjunction with my free Maths Problem Solving strategies Poster. Check out my other Maths problem solving resources BELOW!

These problems can be used independently but work best when students are aware of the problem solving strategies. Modelling the use of these strategies with these problems is recommended. Students can use the strategy that best suits they learning style and preference. See strategies below.

Enjoy :)

Kids loved the tasks, especially good for differentiation activities in Mathematics. Open-ended nature was particularly powerful.
