Explanations and Suggestions for Use
Explanations:
· Use the diagrams A-D to explain the relationship of 8th notes an 16th notes.
· Diagram A is reinforced in Exercise 1.
· Diagram B is reinforced in Exercise 2. Line 1 only uses rhythm B. Line 2 combines the rhythms in both A and B.
· Exercise 3 and 4 continue in this manner – line 1 uses rhythms C and D, respectively. Line 2 combines previously learned rhythms.
· Exercise 5 reviews and combines all 4 rhythms illustrated in diagrams A-D.
Each exercise 1-5 can be practiced in many ways. Here are some suggestions in a sequence of increasing difficulty:
· Count the rhythm
· Clap or sizzle the rhythm
· Play the rhythm all on one note
· Play the rhythm of any measure up and/or down a scale
· Each exercise is 8 measures long, so students can play them up or down memorized scales
