Description

Are your adult ESL or high school ESL students struggling to understand how a paragraph really works? This hands-on resource brings clarity and structure to the three parts of a paragraph—topic sentence, supporting sentences, and concluding sentence—through engaging, interactive activities that make paragraph writing click.

Rather than just telling students about paragraph structure, this activity helps them see, move, and build complete paragraphs. By manipulating sentence cards and completing scaffolded worksheets, students will visualize logical order and begin to internalize what makes a paragraph flow effectively.

Perfect for high-beginner to low-intermediate learners, this activity is ideal for introducing, reviewing, or reinforcing paragraph structure in a way that's visual, tactile, and learner-centered.

What Makes This Resource Stand Out?

Step-by-Step Sentence Sequencing Activity
Students arrange sentences and sentence chunks into proper order, helping them understand paragraph flow from the inside out.

Clear Emphasis on Structure
Helps students see that a paragraph’s beginning and ending should be sharp and focused—just one sentence each—with supporting ideas in the middle doing the heavy lifting.

Write with Confidence
Students apply what they’ve learned using included writing tools like graphic organizers, outlines, and review checklists.

  • ✅ Teacher instructions page

I used this with my composition freshmen and they were having DEEP discussions within their small groups trying to determine the correct order. To me, that's a good thing-- I'd prefer an assignment be a little challenging rather than so easy that everyone's bored :) Thank you!

I'm totally with you on that! I love seeing students stretch their minds and really engage with the material instead of easily finishing quickly and starting to twitch from phone withdrawal symptoms. Thank you so much for dropping by and for leaving specific feedback. I appreciate it, and I'm sure anyone else reading it to try to decide if this resource will fit their particular students' needs also appreciates it. Have a great day! ^_^
