Description

180 scientist biography research project templates covering scientists from diverse backgrounds. Includes one-page poster templates and 3D Science BioCube projects, plus a curated database of 180 scientists to help students pick a research topic. Covers all four heritage months: Black History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, Women's History Month, and AAPI Heritage Month.

The Scientist Database: 180 Verified Scientists. Every scientist in this database has been personally vetted to ensure students can find biographical information. Each entry is flagged for research difficulty and cross-referenced against Encyclopedia Britannica, Biography.com, and curated books. Makes it easier to help students find information about their chosen scientist.

Diverse Representation including

  • 35 African, African-American, or Black scientists
  • 30 Asian, Middle Eastern, or Asian-American scientists
  • 32 Hispanic or Latino scientists
  • 17 scientists with a known disability
  • 10 Native American Scientists
  • 97 women scientists (Categories overlap, total is over 180 unique scientists)

Research Sources Cross-Referenced

  • Encyclopedia Britannica (many entries free)
  • Biography.com
  • Women in Science by Ignotofsky
  • Hispanic-American Scientists by Oleksy
  • Asian-American Scientists by Yount

Nobel Prize winners are generally the easiest scientists to research and are flagged in the database.

Role models are important to students and learning about the lives of scientists from diverse backgrounds helps students see examples of a growth mindset in action. In this scientist biography project, students not only research the basic facts about the lives of the scientists but also look at the importance of mentors, overcoming mistakes, and life lessons the scientists learned.

The bundle includes Lists of Suggested Scientists and Bibliographies about the listed scientists.

Information about these individuals can be found in the various books listed in the bibliographies. To also help determine which scientists will be easier for your students to research I have indicated if they have entries in Encyclopedia Britannica (our school has a subscription but many entries are free), in Biography.com , in the book: Women in Science: 50 Fearless Pioneers Who Changed the World. By Ignotofsky, in African and African American Women of Science. By Bernstein, Winkler, & Zierdt-Warshaw, in  Hispanic-American Scientists. By Oleksy, or in Asian-American Scientists by Yount

This is a fantastic resource for helping students select scientists from diverse backgrounds. This saved me a lot of time since I didn't have to create my own lists of solid research choices.
