Description

In need of differentiated math practice? This set of printables include math fact practice for addition and subtraction. This set is designed for first grade but would work well for kindergarteners who are exceeding grade level expectations or for second graders who are not yet meeting grade level expectations or struggling with certain skills.

Each skill addressed in this set is differentiated to address your students who are not yet meeting grade level expectations, your students who are meeting grade level expectations and your students who are exceeding grade level expectations. Each sheet is marked at the bottom with an AP (for approaching grade level expectations), AT (for at grade level expectations), and EX (for exceeding grade level expectations). This makes it easy for you to make sure each of your students receives work that correlates with his or her current level of performance while also allowing all students to feel success by working on a similar skill, but at a level that is appropriate for them.

These printables are great for small group work, individual practice, pre-teaching or re-teaching skills and would also work well for homework! You could also teach a whole group lesson on the skill and then give your students their differentiated practice to reinforce what they learned with practice that is at their specific level. These activities are ready to print and use and will meet all of your students’ needs.

The skills and content this set addresses includes:
• Counting up (addition)
• Doubles facts (addition)
• Flipping the addend (addition)
• Missing addends (addition)
• Counting on (subtraction)
• Counting back (subtraction)

The common core learning standards that are addressed in this set are:

Operations in Algebraic Thinking:

Understand and apply properties of operations and the relationship between addition and subtraction.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.OA.B.3
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.OA.B.4

Add and subtract within 20.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.OA.C.5
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.OA.C.6

Work with addition and subtraction equations.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.OA.D.8

Numbers & Operations in Base Ten:

Use place value understanding and properties of operations to add and subtract.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.NBT.C.4

Add within 100, including adding a two-digit number and a one-digit number, and adding a two-digit number and a multiple of 10, using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used. Understand that in adding two-digit numbers, one adds tens and tens, ones and ones; and sometimes it is necessary to compose a ten.
Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract. If 8 + 3 = 11 is known, then 3 + 8 = 11 is also known. (Commutative property of addition.) To add 2 + 6 + 4, the second two numbers can be added to make a ten, so 2 + 6 + 4 = 2 + 10 = 12. (Associative property of addition.)
Understand subtraction as an unknown-addend problem. For example, subtract 10 – 8 by finding the number that makes 10 when added to 8.
