Students will solve Spring addition and subtraction problems within 20, applying strategies such as using number lines or paths, ten frames, number bonds, writing a number sentence and putting the answer into a sentence. Each page provides clear word problems with space for students to show their work - perfect for reinforcing math reasoning and real-world application.
WHAT IS INCLUDED?

- 2 versions - with a number line and number bond OR a number path and ten frames.
- JPEG images of each problem to add to SeeSaw or other password protected websites
- blank editable copy of the template to add your own problems
Four types of addition and subtraction within 20 problems are included:
- result unknown (20 addition and 20 subtraction)
- change unknown (10 addition and 10 subtraction)
- start unknown (10 addition and 10 subtraction)
- comparison (10 word problems)
***I got a bit carried away so there are actually 96 problems ready to go, PLUS a bonus blank template to create your own!
HOW DO THEY WORK?
The pages in this pack all follow a consistent format to help in developing student independence. Each page has an addition or subtraction number story (or word problem). Students can underline parts of the problem, complete a ten frame (make it hands-on by using unifix cubes or counters), a number line and number sentence (or equation) for each problem.
WAYS TO USE:
You can use the problems in different ways. For example, to start off the year you might project each page and complete as whole-class guided practice. Later, you might work with a small group during math intervention before moving the pages to an independent centers or math tub. Why not add some to early finisher tubs or use as morning work or homework!
- whole-class guided practice
- small group math intervention
- independent centers
- early finishers
- homework packets
- morning work
These Spring addition and subtraction worksheets are a teacher-friendly way to build number fluency and problem-solving confidence—without any prep!
LOOKING FOR A DIGITAL OPTION?
I've included JPEGS of each word problem for you to upload to SeeSaw (or other password protected online app). This gives you complete FLEXIBILITY in how you upload the problems - addition OR subtraction OR both, number line OR number path, problem type, how many etc. Use the word problems how YOU want to use them.
LOOKING FOR MORE?
I have a BUNDLE of the Fall, Winter, Summer and this Spring pack available in my store.
WANT TO SAVE PAPER?
I have included instructions for printing multiple problems per sheet of paper. Personally, I print 4 problems on one sheet of paper (or 8 if I copy double sided). My Grade 1 students had no problem with this size. Alternatively, you could print 2 problems on one sheet of paper or keep them full size.
This pack aligns to the following Common Core Standard:
1.0A.1- Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions.
Don't forget that leaving feedback earns you points toward FREE TPT purchases. I love that feedback!
