Description

Are you looking for a resource to introduce your students to various strategies they can use to solve multiplication problems? Or, maybe you’re looking for some extra multiplication strategy remediation worksheets. This unit reviews basic fact multiplication using the distributive property and scaffolds the learning beyond that from 2 digit multiplication to 4 digit multiplication. Students will clearly see through the explanations and examples that all of these strategies are very similar and can be used interchangeably. Answer keys are provided.

These multiplication strategy worksheets are a great addition to your math curriculum. They provide explanations and examples of each strategy - area model, distributive property, partial products, and algorithm - so students clearly know how to use each one. When I taught these strategies to my 4th grade students, I introduced each one separately so students could get ample practice with each method. Then, I modeled how to solve them simultaneously to show my students exactly how interchangeable all the strategies truly are. This gave my 4th graders a deeper level of understanding about how to solve multiplication problems successfully.
