Description

In this creative project, students will design and encode their own grayscale artwork using 2-bit binary numbers. The project culminates with an artist statement in which students reflect on their design choices and the role of binary encoding in digital images.

The final submission will include:

  • A labeled and shaded 10x10 pixel grid (minimum)
  • Binary and decimal row data
  • A 3–5 sentence artist statement
  • Neat, accurate work following the 2-bit encoding system

This project reinforces understanding of binary representation, strengthens connections between math and art, and encourages creative expression through computer science principles.

Lesson 1: 1-Bit Binary Image Representation Students are introduced to how digital images are made from pixels and stored using binary. They learn that 1-bit binary allows each pixel to be either black (1) or white (0). Through hands-on activities, students create and decode simple black-and-white p
