Description
The Partial Product strategy shows students how to use their knowledge of place value to solve multi-digit multiplication problems. When students fully understand how each part of the question is being multiplied, it can make the transition to a traditional algorithm easier.
These strategy cards guide students into organizing their work so they can be confident in their answers.
The file includes 168 different cards which are divided into 3 levels so students can work within their ability and pace.
Level 1: 2-digit by 1-digit (Introduces the concept of finding sub totals)
Level 2: 2-digit by 2-digit (products less than 1600)
Level 3: 2-digit by 2-digit (products up to 9800)
If you wish to offer students the ability to visually understand the strategy and have students check their own work by building a problem, an accompanying Math Mat is available.
