Description

WINTER GAMES MATH PROBLEM SOLVING! NO PREP! I use these task card scoot activities in my classroom to get my students up and moving! Includes 16 real world 2026 winter games math word problems.

Each card features a real athlete or event from the 2026 Milano Cortina Games, making the math feel relevant and exciting. These problems are specifically designed for 4th and 5th-grade standards, focusing on decimals, multi-step word problems, and measurement conversions. PERFECT FOR TEST PREP REVIEW!

What is included?:

  • 16 High-Interest Task Cards: Featuring stars like Mikaela Shiffrin, Chloe Kim, and Ilia Malinin.
  • Real-World Data: Students solve problems based on actual track lengths, rotation degrees, and record-breaking scores.
  • Student Recording Sheet
  • Answer Key.

What Math Skills are Covered?:

  • Decimals: Adding, subtracting, and comparing scores and times.
  • Operations: Multi-step multiplication and division word problems.
  • Measurement: Converting meters to laps and calculating perimeter.
  • Geometry: Calculating degrees of rotation for figure skating jumps.

How to Use:

These can be used for small groups, fast finishers, or remediation. But my favorite was is to tape these cards around the room and let your students "scoot" from station to station. I like to limit the number of students per card and make it a quiet activity. Also perfect for partner work!

Use the four operations to solve word problems involving distances, intervals of time, liquid volumes, masses of objects, and money, including problems involving simple fractions or decimals, and problems that require expressing measurements given in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit. Represent measurement quantities using diagrams such as number line diagrams that feature a measurement scale.
Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real world and mathematical problems. For example, find the width of a rectangular room given the area of the flooring and the length, by viewing the area formula as a multiplication equation with an unknown factor.
