Description
What is Rocket Recorders?
Rocket Recorders is a fun, graduated system to inspire students to learn the descant/soprano recorder at their own pace. If desired, a positive reinforcement incentive scheme can easily be created to work with this program.
About the Series and What is New in Book 2?
There are four books in this series, each adding more notes and challenges for the students. After finishing Book 1, they should have the basic skills in recorder playing and know the notes G, A, B, C and D.
This book brings the second hand into play to enable the low notes of E, F and F#.
What is in the Kit?
There are nine pieces of music:
- Closet Key : Traditional
- From the New World : Antoine Dvorak
- Morning: Edvard Grieg
- Star Light, Star Bright: Traditional
- Lucy Locket: Traditional
- It's Raining: Traditional
- French Cathedrals: French Lullaby
- Titan Symphony: Gustav Mahler
- She was MAD!!: Tony Matthews
There are four versions of each of these songs:
- Normal notation with coloured graphics
- Notes named in the note heads, which is said to help beginning readers not only see the note name, but also where it is on the staff. Coloured graphics
- As 1, but nothing is coloured, so the students can colour their own copies
- As 2 but nothing is coloured, etc...
- MP3's of each of the nine pieces. We've found that the students learn quicker when they can hear how a piece goes.
- Suggestions for things I did in my classroom, including some basic knowledge for teachers starting out, as well as tips for more experienced teachers.
- Fingering charts
- Zip File (RR2-Pages) containing the individual music pages
How does the program work?
Students are given the music so they can learn the pieces at their own speed at home. When they feel they are ready, they can be tested in class. If it sounds good, has the correct rhythms, correct notes and good articulation, then they can go on to the next piece of music and any reward system is updated.
Does each child need a copy?
Buying this publication allows you photocopy enough booklets for your own class. This is why we made this such a small book; each version is just 2 double-sided sheets of Letter or A4 paper.
Does each teacher need to buy a copy?
The short answer is... "Yes".
We feel we have made the book affordable for all schools and would ask that you respect the time and work that's gone into this publication and purchase any additional copies.
Rewarding Ideas
How, and if, you reward your students is up to you. Some use coloured woollen tails on the end of the recorder, others use bulletin boards to show the progress; the choice is yours. However, an all-expenses paid trip to NASA, we definatly feel, could be a tad over-kill.
We hope you enjoy using this resource.
All the best
