Printable and digital word problems included. These differentiate word problems designed to help second grade students exercise multi-step math problem solving, reasoning, critical thinking, and precise math modeling skills during their geometry unit.

Each of the 36 math word problem solving task cards included in this resource are provided in two formats:

The focus of the tasks in this collection is on second grade geometry concepts. While solving these complex word problems, students will practice their ability to:

  • In order to complete these tasks, students will need the ability to:
  • Recognize and draw shapes having specified attributes (angles, sides, faces).
  • Partition a rectangle into rows and columns of same-size squares and count to find the total number of them.
  • Partition circles and rectangles into two, three, or four equal shares and name the equal shares using math vocabulary.

Partition a rectangle into rows and columns of same-size squares and count to find the total number of them.
Partition circles and rectangles into two, three, or four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, thirds, half of, a third of, etc., and describe the whole as two halves, three thirds, four fourths. Recognize that equal shares of identical wholes need not have the same shape.
