Description

Make math meaningful and fun with this engaging bundle of 4 readers’ theater scripts designed to help 3rd graders practice 3-digit addition with regrouping in real-world scenarios! Whether students are planning a party, raising money, tracking library totals, or calculating travel miles, they’ll see how math shows up in everyday life—and why it matters.

Each script blends math fluency, collaboration, and a healthy dose of humor to build student confidence and reinforce key addition skills. These skits are perfect for small groups, enrichment, performance-based learning, or cross-curricular centers that connect math to literacy and life.

4 Different Readers Theaters Scripts Included:

  • The Birthday Bash Budget – Friends plan a party and adjust their spending to stay under a $300 budget.
  • Field Trip Fundraiser – A class tracks their weekly fundraiser totals to earn a trip to the science museum.
  • Team Travel Totals – A youth sports team adds up the miles they’ve traveled to games throughout the season.
  • Library Check-Out Challenge – Students tally weekly check-out totals to reach a schoolwide goal of 1,000 books.

How it works:

  1. Split students into groups based on the number of characters.
  2. Have each student choose a character to play.
  3. Students will take turns reading their lines.
  4. Students will act out their lines, and present their skit to the class!
  5. Make it even more fun by letting students create their own props or puppets!

These skits are perfect for:

  • Practicing multi-digit addition with regrouping
  • Applying math in meaningful, relatable ways
  • Supporting reading fluency and math talk
  • Integrating math, reading, and real-life skills
