Description

Regrouping numbers can be a challenge for many students. Our job in supporting this skill is to provide various strategies that be used to accommodate each child's individual needs. Students who struggle to understand the concept of regrouping, visualizing the addition problem in expanded form can be highly effective. In this strategy, students use expanded form to decompose the digits into friendlier numbers where they then can add accordingly. Thereafter, they can add each place value to generate the sum accordingly. In my classroom, we often chant "Zeros are our heroes!" for this very reason!

This resource contains 30 digital task cards with accompanying scaffolded support boxes for each problem! The first 10 problems use numerical equations to ensure the systematic routine of the strategy is understood. The remaining 20 task cards use addition word problems where students can confidently work through the steps with the help of their guiding boxes. Once purchased, a copy of the resource will automatically download to your Google Drive. It's that easy! Check out the preview for a closer look!

Great value
I loved how easy it was to put these slides in my daily slide deck. I was able to model the skill then use it for gradual release by working a problem as a class and then having them do one independently to check for understanding.
