Description
Use these 3 Digit Addition with Regrouping Base Ten Blocks Activity Mats and Differentiated Worksheets to build your students' conceputal understanding! These engaging, hands-on activities will allow students to physically model regrouping 3 digit numbers showing them why and when to regroup, so they won't forget the steps!
Base 10 Blocks Activity Workmats
I use the activity workmats as a teaching tool to promote conceptual understanding of 3 digit addition with regrouping when I introduce the concept, and then as a math center for early finishers.
My students don't forget the steps because they understand the WHY behind the steps.
Students love to use the printable paper clip spinners or 10-sided dice to roll/spin the addends for each problem, making it into a game!
Choose between 2 versions of the 3 digit addition base 10 blocks activity workmats or use them both:
- Model with base 10 blocks manipulatives
- Model by drawing - if you don't have base 10 blocks, or it is too cumbersome to hand them out every time!
Differentiated Worksheets
These 3 digit addition differentiated worksheets are ideal to use with your small groups to target individual student needs.
There are 4 levels of 3 digit addition included to make differentiation a breeze:
- Level 1: No regrouping (for your struggling students who need more practice with basic addition and place value concepts)
- Level 2: Regrouping one place per problem
- Level 3: Regrouping more than one place per problem (ones to tens, tens to hundreds, and/or hundreds to thousands)
- Level 4: Mixed problems of ALL types from levels 1 - 3. Students will have the added challenge of deciding whether or not regrouping is necessary for each problem.
The worksheets build in complexity, so as students master one level, they can "level up" to the next worksheet! I like to have the students use their base 10 blocks manipulatives and workmats to model each 3 digit addition problem from their worksheets.
