Description

This is a complete lesson with interactive independent practice on fraction concepts. In this Google folder you get the Google Slides Lesson, and two independent practice options: (1) Individual practice, (2) Group practice. All are on a Google Slides Presentations with embedded pattern blocks for students to manipulate. The lesson delivery uses Direct Instruction lesson design. The Google Slides presentation includes all components of direct instruction, such as; prior knowledge, concept, skill, and closure. Although this is a 3rd grade standard/lesson, this can also be used with 3rd-6th graders that struggle with fraction concepts.

The independent practice is interactive where students are able to move pattern blocks to create a picture. Students then determine what fraction of the whole each color represents in their picture. It is ideal for students who have 1:1 devices to participate in the independent practice part of the lesson on the interactive slides. Perfect for distance learning! The independent practice is to be used not in presentation mode so that students can use the tools provided along the sides of the presentation.

This is for teachers and students who have a Google account. If you use Google Classroom, you can also push out the independent practice through there so that each student has their own copy, if using the individual practice. If using the group practice, you will want to share the link and give your students editing rights.
