Description
My name is Tom Bogus, yes that is my real name. I am an Elementary Math Interventionist in Copperas Cove, Texas. I have put together a book of activities called Dash To Math.
The Dash To Math activities integrate both Math and Fitness. While performing the math activities, the students are fully engaged in physical fitness. I designed the activities to assist students in making the cognitive connections needed to perform well in the classroom. I believe when you stimulate the brain through exercise, the information will be more easily recalled.
The objective specific activities are designed to motivate 3rd through 5th grade students to embrace math. The activities are arranged by Texas math objectives. The objectives are listed in the table of contents. There are also 62 general activities for 2nd through 5th grade students.
I have used the activities the past two years with my intervention students, and have shared them with other teachers and students. We have also used the activities as an after school program. The first week we met with our after school students, there were only 15 children in attendance. However, within two weeks our numbers soared into the 50’s!
Dash To Math can be used in the classroom, in tutorial settings, as an after school program, in physical education classes, as a school wide competition, during summer camps, and maybe even someday as a tutoring center.
My goal is to have this innovative program used by students worldwide. If, the elementary version is a success, I plan to write a K through 2nd program. Then, I will develop a Middle School version, which will be followed by a High School version.
If your interested in taking a closer look at this program, I would love to share more with you.
