Description

Are you using CCSS Engage NY Math curriculum in your classroom? Are you tired going through so much paper for every lesson? Me, too!

What if someone had gone through each lesson and pulled out the essential questions your students should work on? I did!

My goal for this project was to cut back on the amount of paper used in class, create a student-friendly layout, and cut back on unnecessary (in my opinion) work.

Each lesson contains problems modified from the problem set and in some rare cases from the homework pages. The problems have been carefully chosen to inspire discussion and learning. I tried to create pages that would help students learn without getting overwhelmed. This unit introduces concepts of multiplication and division.

There are foldable pages for many of the lessons to provide practice or additional instructions. Not every lesson has a foldable page. You can choose to include both pages in your notebook or not - they are independent from one another.

In order to cut back on paper, the fluency sections in my lessons will replace the fluency/sprint worksheets. You can still time students in this section – give students approximately 10 seconds per problem. Or you can leave it for practice. Instead of making a paper copy of fluency practice and a problem set, you make one copy for each student.

In my classroom I shrink each page 94% and we glue each page in a composition book. This gives me, my students, and their parents a great record of mathematics learning and a quick look at what students are not understanding.

** I am currently working on adding pages of more ‘interactive’ work for students in the form of foldables/flip books. When other modules are updated, please download the files again. I have included the foldables in the MODULE 1 download. **

I'm using this product as a review for my resource students. They are very engaged with the interactive notebook format. I like having an accompanying worksheet to use if I want to.

Interpret products of whole numbers, e.g., interpret 5 × 7 as the total number of objects in 5 groups of 7 objects each. For example, describe a context in which a total number of objects can be expressed as 5 × 7.
Interpret whole-number quotients of whole numbers, e.g., interpret 56 ÷ 8 as the number of objects in each share when 56 objects are partitioned equally into 8 shares, or as a number of shares when 56 objects are partitioned into equal shares of 8 objects each. For example, describe a context in which a number of shares or a number of groups can be expressed as 56 ÷ 8.
Use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems in situations involving equal groups, arrays, and measurement quantities, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
