In my classroom, we use them for homework Monday through Thursday. Here's how I do it:
- At the beginning of each week, we set a goal of how many stars we want to earn for the day.
- Students will receive a new page each day and they are required to complete a minimum of 3 in a row on the board like a tic tac toe.
- Each student that completes their tic tac toe for the day will get the class a star and if they complete all 3 of the possible 3 in a rows will get the class 5 stars.
- On Friday, if students have reached their goal number of stars, they will be able to earn a whole class reward. Typically this reward is something simple that doesn't cost me anything and the class will enjoy, such as extra recess, free talk time, etc.
Prep is quick and easy... just print the students pages, pass them out, and you're ready for simple skill practice.
