This 3rd-grade math project-based learning resource is a great way to review third-grade math topics such as multiplication and division facts, solving word problems, interpreting elapsed time, solving real-world context perimeter and area problems, rounding to the tens and hundreds places, and more. Take a Peek Inside the PBL Workbook!

  • Activity #1- Going on a Hike: Students practice single-digit multiplication problems, as well as solve word problems involving elapsed time. (3 pgs.)
  • Activity #2- Making S’mores: Students dive into division as they attempt to split campers evenly between fire pits. They also solve for unknown pieces of multiplication and division equations. (3 pgs.)
  • Activity #3- Campsite Fun: Students use multiplication and addition to solve perimeter and area problems. They use critical thinking skills to place as many sleeping bags in a tent as possible using their knowledge of area. (3 pgs.)
  • Printable Game- Going Fishing: In this 2-player partner game, students practice rounding numbers to the nearest tens or hundreds place. The one with the most points at the end of the game wins!
  • Student Self-Reflection: Students answer questions about how they feel they are doing with the math concepts practiced throughout this workbook. They discuss what they liked, what they struggle with, and what questions they have.

How to Use This Resource in Your Classroom:

Instructions:

  • Print and copy this workbook for each student. Save ink with the printer-friendly version included!
  • Use this activity for REVIEW AND PRACTICE after students have learned the content.
  • Students should be able to complete each activity in 20-30 minutes.

Activity Variations:

  • This activity is PERFECT for math centers! Students can work independently or with a small group.
  • Use this activity with a teacher-led small group for students that need extra guidance and support.
  • Assign this to students that are home sick or on vacation to encourage them to complete math activities while they are away from school.
  • Leave these activities for a substitute to do with students!
  • Have a teacher aide or parent volunteer work through problems with students that are struggling.
