Students learn the important skill of rounding to the nearest 100. This 3rd grade math review resource provides you with a rounding lesson. It teaches students to understand how a number rounds up or down. The colors on the lesson sheets and number lines will help students visualize going up or down. There are two worksheets for students to show their understanding.
I always teach rounding at the beginning of the year, and it's always a difficult concept for many of them to grasp. I have found this method of underlining, circling, and the arrow to be very effective. I've seen it done a few different ways, but to me, the direction of the arrow is important.
Make sure you've taught how to round to the nearest 10 before rounding to 100.
The pages include
- colorful, step by step examples
- a number line to help students visually see why the answer is what it is
There are practice problems with plenty of space for students to show their work. The last few problems are challenge problems because they follow the steps, but they're a little harder.
I've also included a 'how to use' page to help you with ideas of how to use this resource.
