Description

Student reflection is a key component to student learning, and Reflection Cards are the way to achieve this goal in your classroom!

These are perfect for:

-Standards Based Classrooms

-Achieving student reflection

-Data tracking

-Quick & Easy Exit Tickets

What is a Reflection Card?

Reflection cards are be given to students after lessons have been taught and you'd like to know, or have a record of where students believe they are at in their learning. Students will read the "I can" statement that directly aligns to a Common Core standard. They will then reflect on their learning and knowledge of the statement. Do they understand what was being taught? Could they teach this to another student? The number the student colors in will be a direct reflection of what they believe they know.

How do I track the Data?

Students will turn in their Reflection Cards to a labeled bin (labels included). Data sheets are provided for you in this download and were created with the intent of recording student reflection and what you as the teacher believe they know. Keeping these data sheets is also an easy way to check which standards still need to be taught and can be used for tracking grades for Standard Based Classrooms.

How do I teach student reflection?

This will start off slow. Students will want to give themself a four right away, just because it's the highest number. You will want to cultivate an environment in your classroom where students feel it's safe to make mistakes and not know everything right away. This can be done through:

  • Morning Meetings
  • Verbally reflect on YOUR teaching
  • Make mistakes! Students love seeing their teacher mess up too and it shows them it's safe for them to make mistakes.
  • Use privacy folders

What's Included?

  • Reflection Cards for every 3rd Grade Math Common Core Standard
  • Data Tracking Sheets for each standard
  • Reflection Card Labels

I wanted a quick way for students to self-reflect on our lessons and this is a good way to to that. It helps me to create small groups for reteaching as well. I appreciate having all of the standards ready for each unit. Thank you!
