Description

This Place Value activity promotes higher level thinking and categorizing skills while composing and decomposing numbers. Students will discover different ways to show the same number, grouping matching place value number cards into sets of four.

✅Check out the PREVIEW to see a more detailed view! ✅

Each set of cards has a twist with a higher-level thinking strategy. For example, in the first set of cards there are three hundreds, but the base 10 model shows only two hundred “flats”. Students will need to realize they can use 10 “longs” to make 100. This activity provides the practice your kids need to successfully recognize the mathematical relationships found in the base-10 place value system.

This product includes:

• 7 sets of Place Value Match Ups (28 cards in all)

• Students Recording Sheet

• Key

• Student Directions page

• I Can Statements for TEKs 3.2A and 3.2B

• Teacher Notes page

These place value matching task cards are fantastic! They provided my 3rd graders with the perfect hands-on practice for mastering word form, expanded form, and models. The cards are clear, engaging, and really helped my students connect the different representations of numbers. I love how they’re easy to implement in centers or small groups, and the variety of formats kept the students excited and focused. A wonderful resource that reinforced key concepts and built confidence—thank you for creating such an effective tool!

Recognize that in a multi-digit whole number, a digit in one place represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right. For example, recognize that 700 ÷ 70 = 10 by applying concepts of place value and division.
Read and write multi-digit whole numbers using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form. Compare two multi-digit numbers based on meanings of the digits in each place, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons.
