Description
This is a formative assessment that shows students 4 strategies they can use to compare decimals. According to the CCSS, 4th grade students only have to compare decimals to the hundredths place value. At the end of the lesson, students will self-assess how they compare decimals and they will declare which strategies works best for them. This is the strategy that I will expect them to use from this point on to compare decimals. (One strategy requires the manipulatives in the EM kit.)

Compare two decimals to hundredths by reasoning about their size. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two decimals refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions, e.g., by using a visual model.
