Common Core Standard 4.NBT.6 Find whole-number quotients
and remainders with up to four-digit
dividends and one-digit divisors, using
strategies based on place value, the
properties of operations, and/or the
relationship between multiplication and
division. Illustrate and explain the
calculation by using equations,
rectangular arrays, and/or area models.

Attention elementary Math teachers! Did you know the traditional algorithm for long division is not formally presented until 6th grade? Our standard for long division, as stated above, encourages different strategies to arrive at the quotient. My product is a 22 slide Power Point which explains the long division strategy of using multiplication facts the students already know! The last two slides of the Power Point are a 4 problem practice page and its key to help your students master this new strategy. No more Does McDonald's Sell Cheeseburgers! Teach your students to REALLY understand the meaning of long division with this great strategy.

Thanks for leaving feedback. I had to teach myself this strategy because I have always relied on the algorithm. I hope you and your students benefit from it!

I think this is a great way to explain long division to all students especially my lower level learners!
