These bell ringers which I call "DO NOWs" are a perfect product to spiral your math standards. They have helped me tremendously. They are TEKS/STAAR-aligned, and they are certainly not "busy" work. While you take your first 10 minutes to prepare for the day's lesson or work with struggling students at your teacher table, the rest of your class is working on these purposeful DO NOWs.
My students expect their DO NOW as soon as they walk in my classroom. We take the first 10 to 15 minutes of class to complete, model/review. Each DO NOW contains an exemplar, which is much better than just an answer key. It's a suggestion of how to solve each problem.
