About the Math Choice Boards
This resource contains 6 math choice boards (2 on a page).
There is one math choice board for each Number and Operations: Base Ten Standards for 4th grade.
- 4.NBT.1: Adjacent Place Value
- 4.NBT.2: Writing and comparing numbers
- 4.NBT.3: Rounding numbers
- 4.NBT.4: Addition and subtraction
- 4.NBT.5: Multi-digit multiplication
- 4.NBT.6: Multi-digit division
The printable math choice boards are available in two formats: with and without a colored background.
Each math choice board contains 8 tasks for the students to complete independently. The choice boards could be used for homework, independent work, or math centers.
The only materials needed are decks of cards with the Ace, Ten, and Face Cards removed. If you do not have decks available, or if you want your students to have their own sets of numbers to use at home, I have provided a template of numbers 1-9 to print.
Due to the nature of the activities, no answer key is included.
Example Tasks:
- Follow the directions to create new numbers. 923,678. - a number with a 7 that is 10 times the value of this seven. - a number with a 2 that is 10 times the value of this two.
- Using a deck of cards, create 5 numbers that go to the hundred thousands place value. Write the numbers using expanded form.
- Write about three times when someone might use rounding in a real-life situation.
- Write two unique story problems that require addition of 4-6 digit numbers. Solve the problems.
- Explain when borrowing is necessary. Use this example problem to help your explanation. 742,236 – 653,368 =
- With a deck of cards, create 3 “three-digit by one-digit multiplication problems.” Solve them.
- Explain the connection between subtraction and division.
- Write three division story problems. Then solve the story problems.
