What is the Guided Release of Responsibility? (GRR)

  • Students take control of their learning through 4 clear steps:
  • I do (Focused Instruction)
  • We do together (Guided Instruction)
  • You do together (Collaborative Instruction)
  • You do alone (Independent Work)

All four instructional components are completed each day. My lessons include a very clear explanation of what you, as the teacher, will do in each portion of the lesson. I've also included a start-up guide to help you understand how the Guided Release of Responsibility Instructional Framework works.

How many days of lessons are there?

  • 7 days of lessons
  • Approximately 60 minutes per lesson
  • The first 6 days are instructional.
  • Day 7 is a review/post test day.

What standards are covered with these lessons?

  • 4.OA.1
  • 4.OA.2
  • 4.OA.4

What do I need to supply in order to make this unit successful?

  • All instructional materials are included
  • At times, you may need basic classroom manipulatives such as dice, dry erase markers or counters.

Can I edit this document?

  • You are unable to edit any text that I have written.
  • There is blank space on each lesson plan for you to type in your own notes.
