Description

Looking for a way to make 4th grade math strategies stick? These work mats simplify complex concepts like long division and multi-digit multiplication by providing a clear structure for digit placement and organization. They provide the scaffolding needed to build student confidence along with opportunities for differentiation.

Just as templates streamline your planning, these work mat templates streamline student learning. You'll notice a huge difference in how quickly students grasp concepts when using work mats! Use them for whole group instruction to introduce new concepts or as an intervention resource to support students with learning difficulties.

4th Grade Skills Covered:

  • Round Whole Numbers

Place work mats in dry-erase sleeves for a reusable resource or glue them into interactive notebooks. The activity mats work best as a small group activity. Many pair well with dice and spinners for an interactive and low-prep math center!

Teacher Tip: Store work mats and activity mats in dry-erase sleeves and organize them in binders by unit. This makes storing and reusing them each year much easier!

Teachers who used these work mats have said:

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Easy to use, easy to differentiate for different students, and they look great! I copy the mats I want to use onto cardstock, stick them in dry erase sleeves, and then students can use as needed. Some will rotate the work mats throughout the year if they still feel like they need the support so I don't have to remind them of the algorithm and they can work more independently. –Lauren H

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐This resource is extremely helpful when teaching long division! I continue to use it during small group instruction with students who need extra support. - Lisa

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐EXCELLENT RESOURCE! I was a bit nervous beginning subtracting mixed numbers with regrouping, but with this page, my students were able to see the process and understand why we regrouped and the result of the regrouping. We used this for notes introducing the topic, and I don't think I have ever had as many students so successful on the introduction of this standard! - Sherry

Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real world and mathematical problems. For example, find the width of a rectangular room given the area of the flooring and the length, by viewing the area formula as a multiplication equation with an unknown factor.
An angle is measured with reference to a circle with its center at the common endpoint of the rays, by considering the fraction of the circular arc between the points where the two rays intersect the circle. An angle that turns through 1/360 of a circle is called a “one-degree angle,” and can be used to measure angles.
