Description

Looking for a fun way for your students to practice multiplication? These math riddle activities are aligned to 4th grade math standards and are fun and engaging for kids!

Students are presented with a riddle and must solve multi-digit multiplication problems in order to reveal the answer.

WHAT'S INCLUDED?

This resource includes 2 different riddle activities. Each set includes:

  • 16-17 multiplication problem cards
  • Secret code riddle sheet
  • Answer key
  • Digital version

Set A - Problems involve 2-digit x 1-digit whole numbers

Set B - Problems involve 3-digit x 1-digit whole numbers

Digital Version

The digital riddle sheets have been prepared for use through Easel. They can be assigned to students to complete on any device. This eliminates the need to print a worksheet for each student, saving ink and paper.

HOW TO USE THIS RESOURCE

To play, print out a set of multiplication cards and place them all around the room in random order.

Give each student a copy of the riddle/recording sheet.

Put on some fun thinking music and send the kids on a math hunt. They will need to find each card, solve the multiplication problem, and record the corresponding letter on their paper. If all the problems are solved correctly, the answer to the riddle will be revealed.

This can be a timed or untimed activity depending on the ability of your students and how much time you have.

You can also use these activities in your math centers. Instead of placing the cards around the room, shuffle them and place them in a stack or spread face-down on the table for students to draw from.

Preparing for a sub? Instead of busy work, include one of these scavenger hunts in your sub file! It's super easy to set up and the substitute will be free to move around the room to assist students.

This resource is aligned to the following math standards:
