ABOUT UNIT 8 (Personal Financial Literacy)

  • Mini-Unit 1: Lesson 1 opens with a look at fixed & variable expenses for individuals, families, & businesses. Students will think critically about fixed & variable expenses through the lens of “wants” versus “needs.” They will then get to explore what a profit is and how businesses balance expenses with revenue to make one.

  • Mini-Unit 2: Students receive an introduction to financial institutions and their purpose in American life. Students need to know their options, and to do the work necessary to build their own financial health. The concept of the balanced budget is revisited in Lesson 3, so students can integrate the financial literacy topics for 4th grade and apply them to their own lives.
