I created this writing guide for students who struggled with state test writing responses and ended up using it for all students. It has helped students organize ideas and use key transition words. Students have significantly increased writing scores using this template (Ohio State Test) and have scored between 6-10 points in the writing portion. In my class, the average writing score was an 8 when practicing with this template. Struggling writers (0-3) have become consistent 6 point scorers. I used this template when practicing with informational essay prompts and eventually took the guide away before state testing. I did not have them write on this guide so that they could practice typing it on the computer consistently.
