Description

Overview: This is a preview/review math spiral based on 5 mathematical domains: the number system, ratios/proportions, geometry, equations/expressions, statistics, and a math practice standard section. Each section of the spiral starts with foundational principals and scaffolds from there by adding on to the foundational skills in order to get a more complex and in depth level of understanding. The spirals are grouped in three’s with a spiral quiz after the third spiral in the group. This spiral can be utilized in multiple grade levels:

5th Grade: To get a jump start in 6th grade math domain skills. Very good enrichment for your high achieving mathematical students.

6th Grade: To establish foundational skills and concepts that will be addressed further in the year and to also review concepts that have been taught.

7th Grade: For those students that need remediation in 6th grade mathematical skills and concepts.

In the class: each spiral is to last one week with a section done once a day. In class students at their table groups would discuss the specific section in the spiral in terms of how they come up with their answers, strategies utilized, and any misconceptions as the teacher would rove to each group in support and gather information as to the understanding of the groups. From there groups would ask the teacher for more specific help if the group session did not give them a clear understanding of the concept and its strategies.

Package: This comes with 27 spirals and 9 quizzes in pdf format. Remember....1 quiz for every three spirals. Example....after spirals 1-3 are completed after three weeks, a quiz would then be administered. The emphasis on the the three spirals should be learning, taking notes, and applying their resources to gain a deeper understanding. The quiz is where the grade would come in.

Find the area of right triangles, other triangles, special quadrilaterals, and polygons by composing into rectangles or decomposing into triangles and other shapes; apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
Find the volume of a right rectangular prism with fractional edge lengths by packing it with unit cubes of the appropriate unit fraction edge lengths, and show that the volume is the same as would be found by multiplying the edge lengths of the prism. Apply the formulas 𝘝 = 𝘭 𝘸 𝘩 and 𝘝 = 𝘣 𝘩 to find volumes of right rectangular prisms with fractional edge lengths in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
Represent three-dimensional figures using nets made up of rectangles and triangles, and use the nets to find the surface area of these figures. Apply these techniques in the context of solving real-world and mathematical problems.
