Description
The foundation for all upper level math is based upon two subjects now required by nearly all high schools in the United States - algebra and geometry. The concepts and applications of variables, exponential laws, polynomial manipulation, and finding solution sets in algebra are necessary for all future work in mathematics. Developing a system, using logic, and working with two- and three-dimensional figures are all components of a traditional geometry course. They, too, are extremely important in laying the foundation for future building. Unfortunately, the developing a system and using logic components have been “down-sized” in today’s curriculum. Only rigor can replace the development of a system. But logic can be helped immensely with the incorporation of puzzles into any curriculum. Sudoku puzzles are a wonderful example of using pure logic, but enable only the development of logic. Pre-Geometry Puzzle Riddles will help begin to instill logic . . . while reviewing and enriching the many facets of math necessary for success in geometry. It also reviews the algebra concepts needed for geometry and advanced work by blending algebra with geometry in many of the puzzles. (Which is exactly what today’s curriculum deems most important.)
There are many Pre-Algebra books on the market. There’s a scarcity of Pre-Geometry books. We believe the fifty puzzles within Pre-Geometry Puzzle Riddles will fill many voids. The book will serve as a needed refresher, and refreshing, supplement for geometry. The puzzles do aim to satisfy today’s trend, but are also intended to help replace the logic (and fun) lost from a more traditional geometry. We are confident that both instructors and students will have “aha-moments” as they work through our puzzles to answer the riddles.
