Description

New Year’s is a traditional time for reflection, but this writing resource adds a creative twist! Forget the usual New Year’s resolutions—they’re popular, sure, but let’s be honest: they’ve been done to death. Instead, your students will step into a time-traveling mindset and explore 2025 in a way they’ve never done before.

IMAGINE THIS:

It’s the beginning of 2025, and your students receive a letter from their future selves. What would that letter say? What advice, encouragement, or warnings would they send back to their January 2025 selves?

This activity invites your students to reflect on the year from a unique perspective, writing with their knowledge of 2025 to send a message to the people they were at the very beginning. They’ll be writing from the future, about the past, in the present moment. It’s a fun, mind-bending approach that sparks creativity, reflection, and some big-picture thinking!

What’s Included?

  • 1 Teacher Page: Guidance on how to introduce and facilitate the activity.

  • 20 Pages of Student Prompts: Ink-friendly graphic organizers designed to make the writing process easy and engaging.

❤️❤️ Why You’ll Love This Resource ❤️❤️

  • Perfect for sparking meaningful conversations and personal growth.

  • Encourages creativity and deeper reflection on the passing year.

  • Works seamlessly as a year-end or back-to-school activity.

This activity started life as Dear 2019 Me and has been updated yearly to stay relevant and fresh. Your students will love exploring the concept of advice time travel while reflecting on their own growth and experiences.

Ready to help your students imagine, reflect, and write? Get started today!

P.S. The cover image has nothing to do with the prompts. I always pick something that represents something that is weighing on my mind for that year.
