Description

Goodbye, janky escape rooms! This digital winter math game is no-prep, self-checking, and seriously fun.

✅ Need a differentiated winter or Christmas math escape room?

Dingo Punks: The Yeti and the Yams isn't your typical 5th grade winter math activity — it’s more like a video game! Perfect for test prep and differentiated math review during the holiday season, it's a digital breakout room that dares your students to complete up to five standards-based fifth grade math challenges.

1. Multi-Step Word Problems With All Four Operations: Add, subtract, multiply, and divide

2. Calculate Volume: With images and word problems in imperial, metric, and square units

3. Decimal Computation With All Four Operations: tenths, hundredths, & thousandths

4. Add and Subtract Fractions and Mixed Numbers: With both like and unlike denominators

5. Identify Lines and Angles: Including segments & rays, and acute / obtuse / right angles

✅ Versatile for the entire season:

Whether we’re talking December, January, or February, this no-prep winter math resource makes a flexible whole class, small group, or individual practice activity for any classroom. However you use it, it's an escape room that encourages deep engagement, critical thinking, problem solving, and team building! Some recommendations:

• A virtual / online / digital math game for differentiated winter practice

• A Christmas activity for reviewing grade 5 Common Core math standards

• An informal assessment of 5th grade math skills before (or after) winter break

• No prep practice for specific skills: word problems, volume, decimals, fractions, etc.

• Fully-digital fifth grade math centers and stations for in-person or distance learning

• A math review game for rotations, small groups, or the whole class

✅ Ready to play in minutes:

No setup is required — play in minutes! After purchase, you’ll download a PDF containing a unique game code, which your kids can enter at play.dingopunks.com to begin. Dingo Punks works on all devices: Chromebooks, iPads, laptops, PCs, Macs, phones, tablets, smart TVs, and more.

First, you'll divide your classroom into teams of up to 5 students (you can also play as a whole class or as individuals), then assign each team a device. Each team will then visit the link, where they'll encounter a number of virtual math challenges. Each challenge includes 3 steps:

1. Look at the problem: these can be passages, math facts, puzzles, and more.

2. Answer questions via multiple choice, cryptograms, and crosswords.

3. Decode the secret word by uncovering clues hidden within the answers.

Upon completing every challenge, the game is complete! The entire experience takes 40-60 minutes. The game is entirely self-checking, but hints and answer keys are included for students in need of a little extra help.

✅ The lore of the Yeti and the Yams:

Bad news, Dingo Punks. A hungry yeti has captured you, and plans to eat you for breakfast! But the beast has one weakness: an irresistible love of candied yams. Team up with the other prisoners to solve math challenges, gather the ingredients, and whip up a dish so delicious, the yeti will be too distracted to stop your escape.

Use the four operations to solve word problems involving distances, intervals of time, liquid volumes, masses of objects, and money, including problems involving simple fractions or decimals, and problems that require expressing measurements given in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit. Represent measurement quantities using diagrams such as number line diagrams that feature a measurement scale.
Recognize angles as geometric shapes that are formed wherever two rays share a common endpoint, and understand concepts of angle measurement:
An angle is measured with reference to a circle with its center at the common endpoint of the rays, by considering the fraction of the circular arc between the points where the two rays intersect the circle. An angle that turns through 1/360 of a circle is called a “one-degree angle,” and can be used to measure angles.
