Description

Word problem, math problem solving intervention and progress monitoring for 5th grade math age appropriate for older students! Includes an all inclusive progress monitoring packet and 2 packets of intervention practice. Appropriate for older students working on lower grade levels with no clipart and discrete grade level markings.

Guided intervention of math problem solving skills, great for explicit teaching of problem solving. Each page includes 4  word problems, the first two problems are meant for teacher led intervention. The last two word problems then closely match the first two, students solve these independently. With the scaffolded similar structure to the problems students become confident in their skills.

Two different methods to solve word problems are included, 4 pages to practice solving using pictures and 4 pages to practice solving with equations. On the last two pages students practice independently and can choose which method is most helpful to them. Provide your students with skills other than just “find the key words”

Also included 20 progress monitoring assessments, to collect data on your students for the whole school year. These will provide you with the much needed data for writing Evaluation Team Reports (ETRs), Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and for Response to Intervention (RTI).

Geared towards older students working on lower grade skills. Age appropriate problem examples and no clipart. The grade level is not clearly marked on the page, so students don’t feel self conscious about their individual levels. Special care was also taken in writing these word problems to use a diverse set of names. Uncluttered with easy to read fonts.

Here's what you'll get:

  • 14 teacher led intervention pages ( 7 solve using pictures, 7 solve using equations)
  • 8 independent practice pages
  • 20 mixed standards progress monitoring assessments
  • 120 total word problems
  • Answer keys
  • Teaching notes

Your students will quickly begin to feel confident in their problem solving skills.  You will be providing them two methods to solve word problems. (other than just “find the key word) With the repetitive practice students will begin to see their progress and will master these skills.

Prep is quick and easy... Just print the student pages, gather plastic sleeves or dry erase boards, and you're ready for focused helpful word problem solving intervention!

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions referring to the same whole, including cases of unlike denominators, e.g., by using visual fraction models or equations to represent the problem. Use benchmark fractions and number sense of fractions to estimate mentally and assess the reasonableness of answers. For example, recognize an incorrect result 2/5 + 1/2 = 3/7, by observing that 3/7 < 1/2.
Interpret a fraction as division of the numerator by the denominator (𝘢/𝘣 = 𝘢 ÷ 𝘣). Solve word problems involving division of whole numbers leading to answers in the form of fractions or mixed numbers, e.g., by using visual fraction models or equations to represent the problem. For example, interpret 3/4 as the result of dividing 3 by 4, noting that 3/4 multiplied by 4 equals 3, and that when 3 wholes are shared equally among 4 people each person has a share of size 3/4. If 9 people want to share a 50-pound sack of rice equally by weight, how many pounds of rice should each person get? Between what two whole numbers does your answer lie?
Solve real world problems involving multiplication of fractions and mixed numbers, e.g., by using visual fraction models or equations to represent the problem.
