These are student notebook pages that are inspired by the Narrative Craft unit in the Lucy Calkins Writer’s Workshop program (Unit 1 – 5th Grade). Each session has a minilesson and workshop component. There are no components for Celebration lessons. Instead, I include suggestions for activities you could use to celebrate student writing!
The minilesson component contains a note-taking sheet you can use to guide student through the session's learning target. All examples in this component are my own creation, and are my own interpretation of the session's teaching point. Answer keys are provided for applicable mini lesson pages, so you have suggestions of what to model for students. Please note that "Eleven", by Sandra Cisneros, is referred to as a mentor text in this product. If you do not plan to use this mentor text, several pages in this product will not be of use to you.
The workshop component is what students complete independently during workshop time to practice the skills taught in minilesson. The workshop component includes tips for writing based on the session’s learning target, and a writing space. I include 2 pages for writing per session, but you can always choose to print extras to insert in if you feel your students will need more writing space. I check on student progress in this component as I confer during workshop. I also collect student notebooks from time to time so I can analyze their progress!
