Description

This 6th grade math lesson focuses on asking Statistical vs Non-Statistical Questions. This lesson provides instruction and learning opportunities where students evaluate whether statements can be tested using statistics. Math CCSS 6.SP.1 is the focus - Recognize a statistical question as one that anticipates variability in the data related to the question and accounts for it in the answers. For example, “How old am I?” is not a statistical question, but “How old are the students in my school?” is a statistical question because one anticipates variability in students’ ages.

Statistics is a pretty hard topic to start Algebra 1 off with, my students were very confused and needed more practice and more examples to really understand. This resource helped a ton!

It was a great PowerPoint and I love it had a slide for the students to practice. I also like the explanation of why each question was a statistical question and non-statistical question. Thank you for sharing!!!
